Healthy Lifestyle: Total Woman Mind, Body, and Spirit

Black women face disproportionately higher rates of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, breast cancer, and strokes. These health disparities are often rooted in social and economic inequities, and the stressors associated with these challenges further increase the need for accessible mental health resources and support.

As an organization of predominantly Black women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is uniquely positioned to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of its members and the broader community. The Lufkin Area Alumnae Chapter (LAAC) is committed to addressing these disparities through education, outreach, and the provision of valuable resources.
Our initiatives focus on:

  • Raising awareness about chronic illnesses and preventative care

  • Promoting mental health awareness and access to care

  • Encouraging healthy lifestyle choices through nutrition, exercise, and wellness programs

  • Providing community education and resources to support overall well-being

Through these efforts, LAAC seeks not only to empower individuals to take control of their health but also to strengthen the health of families and communities throughout Lufkin. By promoting awareness, education, and proactive care, we aim to reduce health disparities, enhance quality of life, and cultivate a culture of wellness for generations to come.
